The front of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. On either side Christ is attended by the Most Holy Mother of God and the holy prophet John the Baptist, Forerunner of the Lord — the chief defenders and intercessors for mankind before God.
At the centre of the reverse is St Nicholas, to whom people pray in all the circumstances of daily life and in spiritual need. Around him are icons of the Three Holy Hierarchs, the authors of the Divine Liturgy. To the left is St Basil the Great, below St John Chrysostom, and to the right St Gregory the Theologian. On the suspension loop are two seraphim, angels of fire who stand closest of all to God.
