The cross, of the traditional four-pointed form, is framed throughout, as though with ornament, by the text of the prayer "Let God Arise". At its centre is the Crucifixion — the victorious, triumphant image of Christianity.
Along the edge on every side and around the suspension loop the cross is framed by the words of the prayer to the Life-Giving Cross, recited in danger and in difficult circumstances of life, for the driving out of demons and the struggle against temptation.
The reverse depicts at full length the renowned warrior, the holy righteous grand prince Alexander Nevsky.
Beside Alexander Nevsky are depicted the first princes: Vladimir, Equal to the Apostles, who baptised Rus, and his righteous sons, the passion-bearers Boris and Gleb. Above is placed the icon of the patron of warriors, the supreme commander of the angelic host, the Archangel Michael.
