The front of the pendant depicts the saints Alexander Nevsky and George the Victorious. St. Alexander Nevsky is venerated as a protector of Orthodox Christians and patron of warriors; his relics rest in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg. St. George the Victorious is a helper in agricultural labor, a protector in misfortune, and a spiritual help in the unseen struggle against the forces of evil. On the reverse is depicted the Archangel Michael flying on a red winged horse - an image of the Archangel as protector of the one who prays from visible and invisible enemies, both in earthly life and after death.
